The epic poet of Twitter

I think there are many excellent parallels between the development of this format that is still seeking a name, and the development of the cinema. Movies are a technological medium, reliant on all sorts of industrial and scientific advances.

I think we are now in a place where we’re waiting for the project that will be analogous to The Jazz Singer [a 1927 musical that heralded the decline of silent films]. It’s not that The Jazz Singer was the first movie to have sound – there were lots before it that tried in different ways. But it was the first one that did it in a way in which once the audience saw it, there was no going back. We’re waiting for that type of project – and some of us are trying to make that project.
